Debs Newbold is an internationally acclaimed, multi-award winning storytelling artist. Her creations are funny, deeply felt and often cathartic. Debs works with myths, folk tales and legends as well as new stories. Her highly celebrated trilogy of solo adaptations of Shakespeare’s tragedies have toured to international acclaim since 2014.
This performance of King Lear Retold was recorded live at the Manor Pavilion Theatre before a full house on a hot summer evening during the 2019 Sidmouth Folk Festival. There was no script, except for some choice quotes of Shakespeare’s incomparable verse, just Debs, the story and an enraptured audience. This is a snapshot of a show that despite countless performances is never the same twice. A fabulous retelling of a classic tale, suitable for everyone from those who know it well to those who have never heard a Shakespeare play.
